5 Groceries I Can't Live Without

I'm weirdly infatuated with certain things, including food. Of course I have to really "love" these things to be infatuated. With that being said, here are 5 grocery items you would not be surprised to find in my kitchen. Healthy or not, tasty or under-par, these 5 items are some of my faves.

#5 - Jarred Minced Garlic

Almost nothing is better to cook with than garlic, especially if you're seeking natural flavoring. And almost nothing is better than fresh garlic... unless you're strapped for time and absolutely hate mincing garlic. The answer? Jarred minced garlic. Costs about $5 bucks, lasts a good while and saves a ton of time. Is this stuff even real? I don't know. I don't care. I love garlic... easy garlic!

#4 - Best Maid Polish Style Pickles

Source: Best Maid Website

I. Love. Pickles. Always have. Always will. Best Maid Polish style pickles are hands down my favorite to buy. Ok, let me clarify, they're my favorite "snacking" pickle to buy. (Claussen wins for sandwiches, burgers and sides.) Polish pickles have the perfect amount of spice but aren't exactly spicy. However, I cannot find them in every grocery store (maybe 50/50, if even), and that drives me CRAZY!

#3 - Sabra Roasted Red Pepper Hummus

I used to say I loved hummus. And then at some point I decided that hummus was not that special (maybe I had a not-so-awesome homemade version or two). But THEN Jeff decided to buy some Sabra roasted red pepper hummus for a camping trip, and... no one ate it so we had to bring the entire family-size tub home. Who then ate it? Me. Because I took a dip and couldn't stop. That was over three months ago. We've had hummus in our fridge almost every week since. It's now my staple get-home-from-work snack. I've bought an assortment of other store brands as well, but nothing so far has been better than Sabra's creamy roasted red pepper. (Ok, hummus from Mediterranean restaurants don't count in this assessment!)

#2 - Spicy Mustard

I debated whether I should put spicy mustard at number 1, 2 or 3. Since it's a condiment, I didn't give it number 1. Since I've been a loyalist for such a long time, I dubbed it number 2. Spicy mustard - I put that s*** on everything... seriously - in chicken salads, pulled pork, salad dressings, white rice, whatever. I don't know what it is about spicy mustard but it is an absolute staple in my household (maybe even in my cooking). Regular mustard is for corny dogs. Spicy mustard is for everything else. If I had to pick a favorite spicy mustard brand, I'd say Woeber's Sandwich Pal Sweet & Spicy Mustard, but the reality is that I buy all kinds of spicy mustard, even the off-brand.

#1 - Classic Suddenly Salad Pasta

Drum roll, please... boxed pasta? Seriously, it's come to this? Out of all the fresh meals that come out of my kitchen, I can revert to Suddenly Salad for dinner with zero complaints. Even Jeff has been won over. I don't know what it is about this stuff. My mom used to make it for me as a kid. It's the first thing I ever learned how to "cook." And if we want to be lazy (or have no vegetables) and there's Suddenly Salad in the pantry - done. Classic, though. Classic flavor is key. Back-up flavors I'll buy are Caesar (non-creamy... mayo = ewww) or the limited edition kinds, like Basil Pesto. But really, Classic is the best. What makes this boxed pasta top the charts? I have no clue, but we're kind of addicted. Maybe it's the I-don't-even-need-noodles-with-it sauce. Wait... can oil, water and a spice pack really be considered a sauce? Who cares. Suddenly salad wins!

So welcome to my weird addictions. I had some thoughtful runner-ups, like Ragu classic pizza sauce, Frank's wing sauce or Sprouts shaved parmesan and crumbled feta, but I think my choices were the right ones. Just wait until I get to my favorite seasonings (which includes vinegar). I have some pretty awesome favorites there too.
